Heading of the Section: Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty

Overview: This section talks about criminal force or assault done on a public servant, and due to that criminal force or assault, the public servant is not able to discharge his duties.

Scope of this section: This section is limited to the assault or criminal force on public servants only. The section does not mention the criminal force or assault on normal citizens.

Punishment for  under IPC: This section provides for punishment to anyone who does any assault or uses criminal force to any other person who is a public servant and is executing his duty as such public servant, or with intent to prevent or deter that person from discharging his duty as such public servant, or in consequence of anything done or attempted to be done by such person to the lawful discharge of his duty as such public servant, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
